Price on Like New 58 Cal Huntsman?
« on: April 29, 2008, 04:06:45 AM »
I am brand new here, got referred from castboolits.
My dad has a like new, real early 58 cal Huntsman w/breech plug not O ring.
What is a fair price for this?  He got it in a trade so dont really know the value.  He is wanting a 45-70 of some type so looking to sell the Huntsman.
Thanks for any input
Russ

I gave $130 for mine it was perfect may of been unshot. I also gave $130 for the 12ga ML I bought today and I think $150 for a .45 a while back that was perfect those included shipping. Although they are sought by some they are not gold mines as some folks think. Kurt pm sent

yes PHATINJUN, but you have come across some good deals lately. The average guy on a regular day would most likely have to pay a bit more for those, especially the rare and less often found .45 Cal Hunstman and the much sought after 12 gauge ML shotgun, especially in such good condition. The .58 caliber Huntsman is probably the most abundant of the older H&R muzzleloaders. I would say between $125.00 (family)and $175.00 (others) for the .58, and more for the .45 and 12 gauge, condition being equal.....<><.... ;) ;D

I bought two, one unfired and one fired a few times from a pawn shop, consecutive serial numbers and I paid $100.00 for the pair.  Gave one to  the Brother in law and still have one.  depends where you are, some states (including this one) they are not legal muzzel loaders unless a notch is machined out of the top of the barrel exposing the nippel and cap, these were, but some are not modified, so if you are in a State that requires the cap to be "exposed to the elements" then you may find a cheap ones because you cannot hunt with them.  Larry

If you used a postal money order, I believe you can turn it over to postal authorities.

Just to add to that, I thought the use of the internet for sales, etc fell under the mail fraud jurisdiction

Yup, as long as mail was involved, but whether it will resolve this one issue is another matter, but if there's a history on this culprit, they need to know about it.

This whole mess just reinforces the need for all of us to COMMUNICATE during any transactions.
I have, and will, wait quite a long time for something as long as there's communication (Maybe that's why my wife talks so much....ooops off subject there..... :)  )

Good reminder for all of us to ship fast and communicate everything!
Very glad to hear this worked out well for you.

I agree, I would rather get a PM telling me they got busy and shipping has been delayed by a few days or even a week than sit there and wonder what is going on.  I don't need a daily update (I did get that once), but an anticipated shipping date and then a note that says it was shipped or a note saying it was delayed for whatever reason.  I think we all have families or jobs or things that just plain happen and they can cause delays and I think most of us understand that.  Just let us know.  I think the hardest situation would be a health problem or a deal where you are unable to get on-line to send an update.  One thing I have tried to do is not deposit the money order until the item was shipped.  In the event that I was unable to ship, then the recipient would see that the money had not been cashed either and he could suspect that something was wrong.
