$150 is way too high

They're all over on the internet (AIM, ClassicArms, Century Arms as well as Gunboards.com=private sales)
If you were to post a want-to-buy on Gunboards, you'll get a response pretty quick I'd think. All these sources will be well below $100

Keep looking and be patient, often you'll get a real beauty for a great price and free up some extra $ for ammo

Our local Army-Navy chain, Philipson's Army-Navy, has M44's on sale for $89.95.  Their normal price is only $99.95.  Of course, Gander Mtn. has them for "only" about $150.00.  They haven't sold one lately, I wonder why!  Maybe I'll go to the local Philipson's and see if they have a M38 in the batch for that price, it would make a good stablemate for my 91/59 and Finnish M39.  I don't really need it, but for the price!

You will need to find a local ffl holder that will do a transfer for you. Go to the shotgun news website and they have a ffl locator. Some of them, can be expensive but hopefully you can find one for 15 bucks or so. I live in the Chicagoland area and the cheapest I know of here is 25.

Woodchuckr, is that store in Illinois?

GRIMJIM,

No, the store is in Central New York State.  That is the cheapest price I have seen around here in some time.

Dealers around here charge from $25 to $45 for transfers, so you had better make sure that it is worth it before you buy.  You can ask your dealer to order one for you, but then they will add sales tax.  I used to think nothing of driving 50 or so miles on a gunshop expedition to get a good deal, but not with the current gas prices!

Surplus ammo is readily available and cheap, but it is corrosive.  No problem if you clean the rifle properly.

Commercial ammo is tough to find.  I picked up some Prvi Partizan (Yugo) at a gun show and at a gun shop at $12.95, so I'll have at least 40 cases for reloading the serious stuff.  The surplus ammo that I used in my 91/59 gave me a 1-1/4" 50-yd. group.  With my eyesight that is a miracle!

That is a fantastic group!  The Russians sure did something right when they made that rifle!  What model was it?

i have no idea all i know is it weighs about 15 pounds and has something like a 32 inch barrel. the rings on the scope have been welded onto the reciever somehow so it can not will not move. he said he gave 55 bucks for it and 2 boxes of ammo.

Are you sure of the barrel length and the weight?  Unless you are exagerating, it doesn't sound like anything I can identify.

Those 91/30's take some getting used to, but they are fun to shoot and seem to balance well for me.  I even prefer it to the carbines (m44, 91/59, m38, etc) - they seem almost too short for me.

Simple, well-made, rugged, easy to take down and clean.  No wonder it lasted as long as it did as the primary Russian/USSR battle rifle.

i agree it is a fine rifle but it could use a better scope than it has
