Basic Muzzleloading Questions
« on: September 24, 2008, 01:21:17 PM »
Well I'm new to all muzzleloading and have been looking at setting up my TC Encore for it. I never knew until I started to read that black powder and BP substitutes are measured by volume rather than weight. My questions:
What Brand/Model powder measure is good quality?
Also I haven't seen any powder measure's that go up in increments of 5 grains only 10, isn't there a lot of room to work on loads in between a 10 grain difference?
I assume that with a powder measures you don't just dip it into the loose powder. Is there another item that you fill with powder and then use it to fill the powder measures?
Thank you for any replies. I have used the search and have read back 15 pages so far and have found these answers yet.Thank You,Jake

The TC U-View measure has graduations in five-grain increments.  You can see it in the link below.  Usually available at WalMart for less than shown here.  Also, there's one that looks just like it with another brand name (which I forget) that's just as good and about half the price.

When shooting at the range, I fill the measure directly from your powder canister using a pour spout like the one below that screws onto the top of the canister - also usually availabe at WalMart.

In a hunting situation, I carry pre-measured extra charges in a plastic tube.  There are lots of different ones out there.  I like the ones available from LaneNebraska.

Semisane,

Thanks for the tip. I just bought 20 of the 10ml bottles.
