Hey there,I had a 24" custom shop barrel in 358 win and it was a great barrel,shot 250 gr.bullets great and also 200's didn't like 225's.
Great 250 yard caliber for any deer or bear or moose.
just my 2 cents.

All though you can find factory loads for both cartridges, these two are better suited to reloading.  Factory ammo for either is expensive, and reloading is much cheaper.  Brass isn't cheap for the two, but components aren't bad.

I've got the Custom Shop stainless  284, just because it's a chambering  I've always wanted to play with and Encore is the cheapest route.
Great shooter, fun cartridge. Don't hotrod this combo tho, rebated rim makes  extraction of even slightly "sticky" cases problematic.

I have a bullberry 22'' 358 win and it is great it really likes 225gr bullets I hand load most of my stuff.  It shots factory bullets ok but you do not have much of a choice and most places do not stock them.  If you are able to load your own I would go for it on the 358 win.  I have the same situation with my 260 rem and 35 Whelen go figure.

I always liked the .35's.  I have a 357 max and was thinking about getting something with a little more umph.  I was leaning toward the 358 jdj because I like to have a rimmed cartridge for the tc's for better extraction.  I haven't bought a barrel yet but I think that I would probably got for the 356 win.  It is basically just a rimmed version of the 358 win.  The main advantage over the jdj is that you don't have to form brass.  I don't think that ammo is readily available, but I reload so I don't really mind.  As a side note I believe that the 356 and 358 win are encore only cartridges.

Since the T/C Encore isn’t restricted to action length, I would choose the 280 Remington and 35 Whelen or the 7mm-08 Remington along with your 358 Winchester choice.  All you need is 30-06 Springfield and 308 Winchester brass for either set of choices.  This brass isn’t expensive at all compared to the 284 Winchester, plus you can also use military brass.  Now .358 caliber bullets are very expensive, but you can find better deals on .284 bullets.

The 284 Winchester is a nice cartridge, but really shines when you are restricted to a short bolt action with equal performance from a longer bolt action cartridge.  Plus the brass is expensive.

I have a 358 Winchester Encore barrel.  However it is a pistol barrel,  I like it, but it is a handful.  The 358 Winchester is a great cartridge.  Especially if you like to shoot cast bullets.  Tom.
