Spitzer designations
« on: June 21, 2008, 05:27:05 AM »
Hi Veral,
Could you please explain the different designations for spitzers like SP.8, etc. Is that the ogive shape based on the radius? Thanks.

  You are correct.

The standard SP has a .6 inch radius ogive.  I also make a .5 inch radius, the .8 which is a really nice and graceful form without getting nose heavy for bullets from 6.5 MM up, and the 1 inch radius.  With the longest radius, bullet weights must be fairly high for good accuracy, this to have enough bearing to support the long nose.  In 30 caliber I don't make it in weights lighter than 180 gr and it performs best with 190 grains and heavier.
