Oh, NO! tell me it isn't true!
« on: May 19, 2008, 01:51:26 PM »
Today I started looking for BP again.
When I called Cabella's the clerk told me it was illegal to sell or have and said it was the "Government" If this is so I'm in a real problem!

Santa Dave,  Powderinc.com will send BP right to your door by ups.  All you need is to have a signed form on file with them.

Sure! I know! 5 cans at $23. each  I wont live long enough to use it and that is a major investment in MY financial circles!
I'd have to save three months of my disposable income to cover that!
Anyway thanks for the thought
If I could figure a way to sell 3 cans (no hope)

Still bummed out

If there are any "muzzleloading friendly" stores in your area they might stock some for sale.

Santa Dave,

You might call around to some smaller local gun stores in the Boise area. They may have something or be able to tell you who has. Maybe the guy at Cabella's didn't know what he was saying or, it could have been due to local codes regarding storage of the BP.
If you make it idiot proof, then, someone will make a better idiot.

I ran into the same thing here, it has something to do with the regulation that black powder has to be stored in a concrete bunker...
Gander, Sportsman's nobody here has it in retail...

Santa Dave!

It's great to see you posting here again. Many of us were concerned. You sound like you are feeling much better.

You can do several things to find BP in your area.  Try to find the  local Muzzleoading Gun club in your area.  Ask at sporting goods/gunshops.  In Cabela's ask at the guns and ammo counter but also make sure you ask in the Gun Library.

Personally, I think the clerk at Cabelas is full of it.

You can also contact the Powder distributers and ask them if the have dealers in your area.

Santa Dave GOEX Cannon grade in $19.05 a lb in five pound lots and that includes shipping and hazmat from Powder INC.  I do understand about fixed incomes. so lets see waht we can do here.

Is there anyone else in the Boise area that might be interested in going in with Dave and buying a pound or two of powder?

Powder Inc. will also let you mix & match granulations in a lot. It doesn't all have to be all cannon grade (or whatever grade you were looking for).

So a five pound lot isn't that extravagant.

I'm nowhere near Boise, but I'm in for a pound. Dave can 'store' it for me. Just in case I'm ever, you know, in the neighborhood.

And if he should need to dip into it from time to time, well that's fine by me. ;D

Terry,
Thanks a lot for the generous offer!
I think I'm going to wait a bit. this what happens when you get involved in more than one "rich mans hobby" my other big thing is ham radio and as I can do that here, at home it comes first. It gets me into the action, parades, marathons , disaster training , and so on.
Oh, and thank you for the good wishes during my recent bunch of illnesses. just knowing that someone out there cares is helpful !

Santa Dave,

Hidden away in a secret bunker some where in the mountains of  Central Idaho is about 20 to 25 lbs of Black powder.

I have to make a trip to Boise in the next month or so. I will  vist that bunker and acquire a lb of your favorite flavor of powder and bring it to you. Send me a PM or email with your contact info.

In regards to the reason Cabela's in Boise's doesn't sell blackpowder, here is a response for the inquiry I made of them.

 Subject
Can you tell me why Cabela's in Boise does not sell black powder?...

Hello,

Thank you for your email,

The answer is the majority of Cabela's stores do not sell black powder due to licensing fees, regulations, and related costs. If there is anything else we can do please let us know.

Thank you
Ericka
