Hawkeye or 77 MKII
« on: June 07, 2008, 07:04:53 PM »
What is the difference between the mdl. 77 Hawkeye and the 77 MKII. Other than the obvious trigger improvement.

The new M77 Hawkeye's differences are as follows.
1. New LC-6 trigger.
2. Matte stainless finish on bolt.
3. Matte blue finish on receiver & barrel.
4. Upgraded walnut stock with slimmer profile & wrap around forend checkering.
5. Steel magazine floorplate with Ruger logo.
6. New softer Red Eagle recoil pad.

First of all just let me say thank you for your reply to my querry.

I  should have been more specific in my question. I just bought a SS all weather hawkeye 338 WM. Plus I have a 77 MKII in SS 338 WM with open sights. The hawkeye was new when I bought it but I am not sure it has the upgraded trigger, because I think the rifle Had been sitting on the dealers shelf for about a 18 months. My old 338 is the pre 2001 with the boat paddle stock. The trigger on the hawkeye does feel a little better but not by much. I gave $ 650.00 for the hawkeye and the dealer also had a Rem ultra mag in 338 he was asking $895 for it so I thought the hawkeye was a better deal for me anyway. Who knows the hawkeye might be $ 1000.00 next year. I mounted a Burris FFII on the hawkeye and I think I will use a receiver mounted peep sight on the other 338. I guess that will work for now.
