Crosman Break Barrel Airguns

I'm in the market for a break barrel airgun.  I've been researching the web, and there are several opinions.  My budget is tight and I have a hard time justifying $300 on a pellet gun.  I've read that the Crosman line of break barrels are pretty good.  The key is getting a good one.  I figured I'd try my luck at Wal-Mart since I can easily return it.  I was looking at the Storm XT with a 3-9x32 for $99.88.  The G1 Extreme is the same gun with a different stock and muzzle break.  But adds $25 to the price.

Any input you folks have is highly appreciated.  I plan to use it to pop squirrels off the deck, and beer cans.  I love shooting guns and this will keep my itchy trigger finger scratched.  :-)

I have a Quest (like the Storm) in 22 cal and a Phantom (like the G!).  I shoot them quite often, and they are both powerful and accurate.  I don't use the scopes or rings that came with the rifles, as I like one piece mounts and more powerful scopes.  I have killed 7 ground hogs this year between the two rifles, and they are powerful enough to do the job with head shots out to about 35 yards (from my experience).  I own more expensive air guns like Beeman, and several Gamos, and I feel the Crosmans that I have do the job just as well for fewer dollars spent.

That was my thought.  Does a $300 air gun shoot that much better than a $100 gun?  I doubt it.  My wife let the cat out of the bag.....looks like Santa Claus is bringing me a Crosman Quest 1000X.  It comes with a scope, targets, pellets, the whole package.  She asked my buddy what I wanted, and he hooked me up.  My wife said, "A BB Gun....he'll shoot his eye out."

Don't know about Crossman rifles. but I purchased a Daisey 1000 break barrel at Walmart for 100bucks.. It came with a 3x9 scope. Have had no problems with it. Quite accurate. 3 squirrels and several blue jays proves it.

I bought a RWS 34 a while back.  Power & accuracy are adequate +    Good workmanship esp. when compared to Benj./ Sheridan springer.  $189. or so.  I'd buy it again........

hi  i have a chance to buy a crossman sierra pro  air gun from a junk store for 50.00 it looks like new  and  shoots very well my question is this a good pellet rifle and is this a fair price -

This one gets solid reviews from people who bought them new from Pyramidair.com for $160.  List is 199.   They claim 1000 FPS (however your milage may vary).

I know this is kind of old, but I thought I'd add my experience. 

I had a Crossman Storm XT that I got from Wally World.  First I was surprised to find that it was such a nice rifle for $99.00 bucks.  I was pretty impressed with it, but I was even more impressed with the  Center Point 3x9 scope.  I started to put the scope aside for a 22 rifle, but I discovered the front sight on the rifle was off center enough to make me have to crank the rear all the way to the left to hit anything.  No big problem, I just put the scope on it.  A few minutes later I was busting cans off the deck, happy as a clam.

After a thousand rounds or so though the screw that serves as a scope block broke off and the mounts to the scope got boggered up as well as the threaded hole in the rifle's receiver got stripped out.  I figured it wasn't a big problem, I could get it rethreaded and get a new screw and be back in business, but I thought I'd see if Wally would take it back.  Again had the front sight not been messed up, I'd have just slapped the scope onto a 22 and used the irons.

I had saved my receipt but not the box so I wasn't sure if they'd exchange it or not.  I went in, explained to the customer service lady what was wrong.  No problem.  I got a full refund on my credit card.  I went to the back to get another one, but spotted a Beeman with both .177 and .22 barrels and a 4X Beeman Scope, so I paid the extra and upgraded to that one.  Had it not been for basically getting two rifles for the price of one, I would have just gotten another Storm.  I was really impressed with that rifle.  After a few hundred shots, the trigger had gotten broken in nicely.  The Center Point Scope was a lot better than what I had expected when I saw the words 3x9 scope included.

Busting cans off the deck is fun.  And cheap.

Have you swapped the barrels?  Had any problems with it since purchase?  I know this post is about the Crosman line, but would like to hear how it's going with the Beeman.

the importer of RWS guns often has refurbished guns and demos that they sell almost at cost. I bought a model 34 at my sportsmans warehouse on sale for 179.99.  It has a limited lifetime warranty. I don't believe you will find another maker in that catagory that offers such a warranty. the Model 34 is made in Germany is of excellent quality in fit and finish. Betther than alot of .22 rimfire rifles in that price range. Mine easily shoots .5 inche groups offhand, iron sights at 30 feet with crossman hollow points. (about 6 bucks for 500).  It also feels like a mans rifle. Practice with it and you won't think your cartridge guns have gotten heavier all of a sudden.  And most importantly , the trigger is good out of the box, and you can adjust it!.

You only have to learn not to hold tightly to a spring air gun. hold lightly, follow through, let it clang and boing around, and it will stack pellets like any 22 rifle, quietly, cheaply, and at about 850 to 900 fps. (they say it will go 1000 fps, but that is best case).  anything rabbit size and smaller is fair game, (if it is shootable at all of course). same rules apply,  shot placement shot placement shot placement.

Get an RWS Mod 34 and you will be happy in the long run for only a few dollars more.

Is there that much difference in a $100 air rifle versus a $300 rifle.. in a word... YES Then the $800-$1600 dollar ones are even nicer and the $1600 on up are the nicest. You can spend more on a pellet rifle than a centerfire easily but there are major differences between entry level air rifles and high end models. You will not find a nicer trigger than my Steyr 10m rifle has on any gun. Of course if I wanted to replace the Steyr with the FWB thats currently available it would cost me $2700.

The difference is like that in rimfire between a Anschutz 1712 and a Remington 597.. You can compare the two but in the end their is only going to be one winner.
