.356 GNR or ????
« on: December 03, 2003, 02:06:46 PM »
I have a .357 Ruger BH.  I want to make this a better deer handgun or buy one just for deer.
Budget is VERY important, I would rather wait than waste money.
I am worried about noise with the .356 but is is cheaper to do.
I like the T/C in a 7/08 but don't have the cash.
Thanks for any info.

P.S.- great sight

Tony

Strikes me it would be cheaper and more effective to just trade your Ruger for another in .44 Mag. or .45 Colt.

GB-
I forgot to mention that this pistol was a gift, I'm not getting rid of it.  The conversion would be done with a new cyl.

Mikey-
Here is some info for you: http://www.reedercustomguns.com/information/GNR_cartridges.htm

Thanks for the input.

In that case I'd wait until you can afford to buy another. If you keep an eye out you should be able to pick up a used Ruger in either .44 mag or .45 colt for under $300. Ya just need to keep looking. That  can't be a whole lot more than you're thinking of spending on the mod to yours can it? And you'll have two guns and a lot better deer medicine.

Wait. Don't change a useful firearm for the expediency of the moment. I'm sure you can find a nice, used .44 or .45 for a reasonable cost. Think of the benefits of an easy packing .357/.38 AND a nice .44 Mag, both with factory ammo capability.

My best to you and good luck in your search.
