Trigger Pull
« on: June 21, 2008, 10:07:50 AM »
I sent the buffalo classic back because it was popping open. While it was there I got a 22-250, 24" fluted barrel installed.

after I shipped it, I called and asked if they could make the trigger better.  "sure" she said, "I will add it to the paper work".  When gun and new barrel came back there was nothing on the paperwork about trigger being fixed.  They replaced the latch shelf and I think a spring.

Now with the 22-250 barrel, looking through scope (BSA platimum 8-30 mildot) you can't get a group better then 3-4" (at 50 yards) because you can't hold the gun still because the trigger is so hard to pull!  Guess I got to do that job myself (I know, read the FAQ).

Plus it still popped open with the 22-250 barrel around 6 times out of 50 shots.  Might have been because I kept forgetting to slam it shut.

I went through the same scenario, but mine came back silky smooth and feather light.  I don't understand why yours didn't.  Also, there was no mention of a trigger job in the paperwork, and I wondered if it was because they did it at no charge, and only listed billable items.  On the other hand, perhaps the're getting short timers attitudes and just marking time and not giving a crap about anything.

I don't like to complain considering the the future of CS employees, but 3 weeks ago I ordered some extractor parts to convert 3 ejector barrels to extractors, was told they'd ship right out. A week later my credit card still hadn't been billed, so I called again, was told they would ship the next day, which would have been the 10th or 11th, don't remember for sure now. My credit card was finally billed on the 16th and I have yet to receive the parts. :-\ So I think maybe Pete said it right, but I don't seriously blame them if that's the case, but kudos to them for all the great work they've done in the past.

I have a question with this popping open thing?

I realize that you have to close these hard but for how long does this go on is it something that goes on for the life of the gun or is it a break in thing. I have'nt had the peoblem with my 223 yet but was just wondering for future guns.

See the Handi Basics 101 and Pop Open Medicine in the FAQs, that topic has been beat to death.   9 times out of 10 it's operator error, oil on the latch/shelf or improperly sized handloads when it happens after the rifle is broken in and the latch and shelf are mating properly.  ;)

For me it was probably cleaning fluid on the latch I hope!.  I cleaned the barrel around 30 times for 50 shots (brand new barrel).
I really need to load up some 45-70's to test that barrel as well.
