Question about my new to me contender
« on: July 09, 2008, 03:38:55 PM »
I just traded for a generation 1 contender serial # 76842.  The gun is in mint condition but I have two question:

1.  Can the Herrett style grip and forearm be replaced?
2.  How do you switch it to rimfire? (It does not have the switch on the hammer)

Thanks

Harp

PS:  it is a super 14 in 223 if that matters

Hi
Lots of different grips and forearms, both factory and after market. The G2 grips do not fit the Contender nor Contender on the G2. To switch from rim fire to center fire. Look at the hammer. Some, if you look at the front/ striking area, there are two halves one that sticks out a bit. There is a slot for a screw driver...The half that sticks out, up is rim fire, that part turned down it is center fire. Enjoy and welcome to the addiction...So many barrels and so little time!

when your ready for a 35 rem Barrel look at the Classified adds  ;D
OK all kidding aside I  have that same frame style/age and this is just my Opinion if you call TC they will tell you ,you should upgrade it to Easy open plus trigger selector change,Well I did  >:( and wish I hadn't it cost me $75 and IMHO  the old trigger was better
GB years ago told me how to adjust it and it was a fine trigger and the frame oopen on all my Barrels
I am still not content with the so Called up grade......... IMHO it did nothing to Improve and all ready good Frame
Good Luck and Enjoy

Thanks for the input.  I am fine with the way it opens now and the trigger is great.
