Mothers day Maddness ( best cat weekend ever)
« on: May 13, 2003, 07:51:33 AM »
The feeding frenzy started sat night and didn't let up until monday morn.
My best friend chubjerker flew up from Arizona for a four day cat chasing weekend and I was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to get him on any big cats because of all the cold rainey weather we have been having. I shouldn't have worried.  They were fully awake, and feeding pretty steadily.  And I think the big guys had muscled all little nippers out of the way because we only caught a small handfull that were under ten pounds. My friend chubjerker caught his biggest Channel (30lbs), Flathead (21lbs), and Walleye (9lbs) all in less than 24hrs.

Good friends, Good Campfire, Good fishing trip, all make it very hard to go back to the real world after a weekend like that.

hope you enjoy these photos. I will try to get some more highlights of the trip up soon

In an effort to illustrate my hype about cutbait I would like to point out that all of the fish in the above photos were caught on hunks of cut shad.  Even the walleye.  I don't want to sound like a know it all,  I just have really good luck since I started using cutbait. I hope you guys will too.

SHB was very genorous in only posting pictures of me, but I have several equally impressive photos him from that weekend hoisting 15 and 20 pounders, I am just not smart enough to post them for you. All caught on cut shad.

only thing is this is a new method to me.  you'll have to get me in on how you do it. Please tell me all you know !!!!

Well just about every predator fish can instantly recognize the smell and taste of another dismembered fish in the water upstream from him, just like a bird-dog can smell a quail. So, if you take a freshly caught baitfish and cut it into strips or steaks, and place it upstream from a likley cat holding area, you should have a catfish in abut 5 minutes or less.  It's really that simple.  Variables like fishing pressure, weather fronts, and seasonal habits will affect your succcess, but that is the basic recipe to consistently catch a catfish.

Without mentionting any names, there is a how-to fishing magazine from minnesota, and those guys put out how to books and videos on just about every species of gamefish in America. Checkout their book about catfish fundamentals. I went from an infrequent accidental catfish catcher, to an obsessive compulsive catcher of big cats in just one season, after getting the big cat bug. I have a lot to learn, but the techniques reccomended by those boys from minnesota have really worked for me.
