For want of a screw...
« on: May 16, 2008, 09:27:03 AM »
I picked a post '64 M-94 a few weeks ago.  No real reason except that I haven't had one since my eldest son hocked my pre '64 years ago...    ::)  Anyway, it had a scope mount on it (thank heavens no drilling) mounted to the factory holes for the receiver sight and the finger lever pin removal.  I've taken the mount off but now need to replace the screw that goes in the front hole; called the "finger lever pin stop screw." I cannot find just that one screw listed anywhere.  There is a kit of all receiver screws available, but I don't like the idea of paying $40 =/- for one screw!  Can anyone think of where I might find one?

Nope... they listed it as a "Discontinued Model."  No parts available.  Seems strange to me also, but what do I know...   :-\

Update

Got the screw, shipping was a flat $7.50 for a $4.75 screw so I also ordered a Win. M-97 buttplate that I should need at some time in the future.  The butplate is fine.  The screw doesn't fit.  Looks correct, but is much to small.  Of course my 94 is a post '64 and his add does say for a pre-64, but they look the same and I thought I'd take a chance.

I emailed Mr. Jones, twice, and both times they were returned as undeliverable.  I just sent him a letter today.  Meanwhile I'm still looking for a screw.

AtlLaw, I saw the topic of your post and thought maybe you went to the wrong web-site !! ;D  Have you tried Numrich? They seem to have a good bit of stuff. Go to their winchester section, scroll down PAST where it says 1894 and down to the 94 section. If you've already been there disregard.http://www.gunpartscorp.com/  Dave

Cute Dave!   :D
Unfortunately at my age not even my mind works in thatr direction any more...   :'(
In my initial search I'd tried Numrich but this time I went down the whole list of 94's and found a schematic, clicked on the part number and got a picture of the correct screw.  So I ordered it.  I'm now $40 and chanbge into one little screw...  ::)  I hope this is the right one!   :-[

Wisner's lists the screw for $2.75 - but as a pre-64 part.

If you don't have any luck with your current venture, I'd give them a call to see if they can help you - since Wisner manufacturers all the obsolete gun parts they sell.

Bob's is also a good source for gun parts:

That's what I got from the original site.  $4.75 for the screw and $7.50 shipping.  ::)  It was the pre-64 part also, which is obviously the wrong screw for a post-64... The pictures Numrich has linked to the schematics show the pre and post as different.  Obviously I got just what I ordered...  a pre-64 screw.  Oh well, if ya gonna be stupid, you gotta be tough!  :-[   Gun Parts tells me my order shipped yesterday.  I hope I got it right this time.

Not to make you all feel bad ( snicker  ;D) but there was an extended period of time when you could buy "those old, obsolete, Winchesters" for 15 bucks at every campfire.  Cash or a days labor hauling hay were all the same.

All of the old lever guns were readily available as folks wanted the "new and better" bolt guns.  Trapdoors were often free for the asking.  Being a kid I was not bashful about asking.  :)

update:  I got the screw from Gunparts, thanks for urging me to go back and check them again Dave!   :).  Anyway the part from Numrich was the correct one and screwed right in.  And I got it for half the price and half the shipping fee the first guy charged me!   ::)  BTW, I sent him a letter after 2 unsuccessfull attempts to get an email through to him and he hasn't had the decency to even acknowledge me.

Oh well, he sent me what I ordered, I can't complain and will stop my girlie like whinning!   :'(

Does anyone need a "finger lever pin stop screw" for a pre-64 M94?  I'll give it to you and pay my shipping cost!  All you have to do is pay me what I paid the dealer for shipping!   ;D
