The 35 Rem is a great black bear gun, 200 gr. bullets are what I used in the past.

Excellent with proper shot placement. .35 Rem. is one of my favorite calibers.

.35 REM from an XP-100 wearing a 3x scope.
Sure! I wouldn't have a problem taking a Washington bear with it, inside 100yds, with a steady rest.

I've never used it on bear, but after what I've seen it do to big Missouri whitetails, I don't think there's a black bear that walks the face of this earth that couldn't be laid low with a .35 Rem.  I've got a Marlin that likes the 200 grain Remington core-lokt load and LOVES the Hornady LeverEvolution stuff.  I can find the Hornady cheaper so that's what I buy.... I don't think the deer care much either way.

use the Rems Cor-Lokt or handload the Speer 220 gr.... Providing they give you a decent group at the range you will hunt.

Just got notice that I could purchase my Michigan (U.P.) bear license last week.  (Michigan is on a "point system").  I'm planning to use my hunt scarred Marlin .35 with hand loaded 200 gr. Remington Core-lokts over a stout dose of H4895.  This Marlin will print three of them into about an inch and a half @ 100 yards.  There are harder-hitting rifles in the safe, but I think the good old .35 should do fine and it's overall short length and K-3 Weaver post-reticle scope seem tailor made for this mission.  I really like the Remington 200 gr. CL bullet.  :)
