The wait begins

Sounds like the switch is going into full gear now and only time will tell how this whole Remington , H&R / NEF , Marlin thing will turn out . Myself I'm hoping for the best .

Personally like a lot of you I would have liked H&R to remain and individual entity. This is just a sign of the times like so many other things we see around us, example, Starbucks closing 600 stores is just the latest.  Remington was formed in 1816, that's 192 years, and while nothing says they will be around for another 192 years I feel safer with Remington than Starbucks.

I'm optimistic that Remington will use their resources and technology to keep the quality and perhaps improve on the Handi's we use. This may be a stretch of my imagination but I think these single shot guns did as much to save, secure and feed this country as a 94 Winchester. The Handi's just didn't have Frederick Remington looking over their shoulders and glamorizing them in art and print. I know during the depression it was used by my grandfather and father to put more than a lot of meal's on the table. And I'm proud to say I still have that shotgun in my gun room and it's date of mfg. is probably 20 years before the depression.

Soon as things have straightened out I'll be ordering a new .28 ga. and a .357 barrel. Hang in there.

I sent a 30/06 barrel [ loose] and frame to the old plant which got routed to the new plant. I hope I get it returned before Labor Day.

I sent in a frame to get a .223 Rem, .444 Marlin, & 357 Mag barrels - it got there on the 18th of June.

I called a couple days ago & Jennifer told me that all the barrels were sent to NY & my frame would be sent there to be fitted.  Guess I'll be the beta test.

It's possible that if Remington really pays attention to the NEF - H&R line and sees how unique it is this could be a reality, replacement barrels without factory fitting. Should they do this without a major increase in costs it would be a major leap forward in the single shot market for our Handis. We could see costs of imports rising due to the cost of over seas shipping and transportation making this line even more important to Remington. Some forward thinker may have seen this coming all along.

While I agree being able to order barrels without having to have them fit at the factory would be great I can see a couple of problems with this.

First off, this assumes Remington is going to invest in all new equipment to build the rifles.  They may or may not be doing this, time will tell.

Second problem would be having another generation of rifles that will not interchange with the equipment that is currently available.  If the new rifles are built to a specific tolerance that allows free interchange of parts it would seem logical to redesign to the point that the present rifles would not be part of the system .  Since Remington has no way of being sure all receivers/barrels currently available would be safe on the new rifles they would have to protect themselves from liability.

Since the old equipment was apparently moved to the new plant rather than being junked out I would suspect it will be business as usual.  For the most part anyway.
