Bass on Flies!!!!!!
« on: July 21, 2003, 09:34:24 AM »
I ordered some bass flies but haven't tried them yet till today.  I planned on using them mainly in rivers but tried them in smaller bodies of water.  I used a wolly booger with a 75% black body with 25% chartruese tail with white wings.  I let it sink and bamm a 1 1/2lb largemouth hit awesome action.  It has been slow again so I was playing with flies.  I use a spinning setup with flies with a rattle bobber and a 4' leader it makes it easier to use in tight spots where a flyrod can't be used.  In more open areas I use a flyrod.   Bass on a Fly is awesome!!!!!           BigBill

I'm new at this does anyone have any tips???

Fun, huh? I've used lots, but I have a deer hair frog that is a surface lure. It is a blast to catch bass on. Poppers work well also. Just like spinning/casting, surface bait is very dramatic if you can get into the right time when they are effective.  Otherwise, the wooly worm and wooly buggers are always good choices, and I've seen woolies with curl tails, too.  Some of the minnow imitations are good, too. Also, hopper patterns, crawdads, or anything imitating the food where you are fishing. I have also tied up some dragon fly imitations that work well on bass and panfish. Just look at what they are eating and throw a fly that copies it. Then comes the fun part.
