FAIR vs Maroocchi conbination guns
« on: January 12, 2009, 06:45:48 AM »
Hello everyone,

I'm in the market for a nice reliable combination gun. I'm looking at either the FAIR Combi XLight or the Marocchi Finnclassic 512. Have any of you used either of these guns? Do any of you know where I can get some reviews on either of these guns? The Marochi reminds me of the old Valmet combination guns. The FAIR seems to be a lighter gun that fits and carries a little nicer than the Marocchi.

I've included the web addresses for each model.

Take care

The 512 is the new production, made in Italy version of the old 412, made in Finland gun.

I've have fired the 412's thousands of times, good gun that you can read a lot about right here on this forum...  I prefer the 412's to the 512's...  I believe they are made of better steel...

Drillingman,

Thanks for your comments. The only 412 models I can find used locally are chambered for 22 centerfire cartridges (mainly 22 Savage Hi-power or 222 Remington.) I am looking for some thing that I can use for larger game animals like whitetails, bear and even small moose. My ideal set up would be a 6.5 x 55 sw with either a 16 gauge or 12 gauge barrel. A close second would be a 308 or 30-06 with a 12 gauge. I like the way the FAIR gun feels and handles. It handles more like a shotgun, which I happen to prefer.  The Finnclassic 512 seems to be a little heavy when compared to the Xlight Combi. It reminds me more of the Savage Model 24. I would have already picked up the Combi xlight if I could find some positive reviews concerning this gun.  Unfortunately I have not been able to find any reviews about this model.

Take care

Here is a 12/30-06 on gun broker http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=121297881

I would say the Valmet 412 handles like a O/U shot gun.

Let us know what you end up with...

If you go with the Valmet PM me as I has a source for double triggers and mounts.

Good Luck

Doug

dougk,

Thanks for the web link. Unfortunately individuals can not buy guns in the USA and import them into Canada.
At least that is what i am told. So much for free trade. >:(

Take care

"If" i dug around a bit, i probably could find a new 12/30-06 bbl that's new in the box that i don't need...  It would be a 412 bbl, but would also fit a 512 too...
