Scope Mounted!
« on: August 06, 2008, 05:29:38 AM »
I tried to go as low as I could.  I fabricated a Weaver base and used a
single Weaver low ring.

The scope is a Leupold 2.5x20 Compact.  It shoots a good group at 100 yards
and holds its zero real well.

I don't think I'd trust one ring, but it seems to be working for you.

Yea, I was a little hesitant to try only one ring.  I saw a post last year, I think it was on this site, that showed a large red dot scope mounted on the rear open site area and it used only one ring.  I thought I would borrow that idea and try this.  The scope is very light and I have done a lot of testing with it.  I made sure I went with the widest ring I could find.  It has behaved really well.  If I ever come across a longer, low Weaver base like a scout mount, I may give that a try and use two rings.

Weaver has a new tactical ring that has 6 screws holding the cap on, and it's pretty long.

If that's a one-piece tube it'll probably be fine, but I wouldn't try it with a two-piece tube.
