New Load test with 3030 handi (Update)
« on: June 27, 2008, 08:52:44 AM »
Been wanting to try some BLC-2 in my handi, and finally got around to getting a nother pound after I ruined my other one by pouring a dribbler full of another powder into the almost full can.. The second shot went out and Im giving the benefit of the doubt to the rifle and blame this on the operator. I didnt run it over the chrony but will eventually. The load is 36.0 grains of  BLC-2 CCi magnum primer Winchester Brass with a COL 2.550. Sierra 150 FP. I am proud of it so far (of course it needs to prove itself).
The 3 good shots measured 0.626

Good Shooting!

Nice group , if it stays consistent you have a real shooter there , I tried BLC-2 in my 30/30 with mixed results , but was using a lighter bullet too .

As for the powder , we all make those mistakes from time to time , the fact that you caught it before you used it to load something else was the good part .

Very nice shooting!! I tried BL-C2 and 150gr Nosler Partitions(cheap @ $5 a box!) but the best groups never compared to how well the 150gr Rem factory ammo shot, so I gave up on them. I have some 125gr Nosler BTs loaded up with BL-C2, but haven't shot them yet.

Yeah, I know, makes me wonder why I even tried to do better with handloads, but it's all fun.  ;D

Looks like you are well on your way.
From what I have read on BLC 2 you should get pretty good velocity from it.

I picked up a couple of 30/30's this year (not handi's) and am working up a load for them with the BL(C)-2 Tim made me get for my 338/06.  Just starting, but so far I'm pleased!   ;D

+1 on the 150 Rem. CL factory loads.  And the icing on the cake is, they work so well on deer sized game!  The 150 gr. CL opens adequately on straight lung shots and penetrates very, very well on quartering shots.  I love 'em. :)

No 30-30AI report cuz I haven't been to the range, won't be until I get the all the home projects done. Between them, doctor and dental appts and other commitments, it may still be a while, I have 7 or 8 unfired guns to shoot. :-[

You have my sympathy Tim, I have a kitchen and bathroom to remodel soon as the ribs heal a bit more.  Till then I'm restricted to rim fires and little else.  Can't even run the press to do any reloading.

Think I'll take the little guns to the range today and worry about you not getting to shoot.   ;D
