Practicing with an old .22, questions
« on: June 27, 2008, 05:21:25 AM »
I have a Romanian M69 .22 Training Rifle, all stock but missing the mag so I shoot single shot. I like using it to plink but the sights are terrible . Does anybody know of iron sights that can fit those dovetails without major gunsmithing? What about restocking or modifying the stock to fit me better? Any of you that have one and are rather tall with wide hands know that the grip and comb aren't exactly a good fit. I just want to make it more comfortable and easier to shoot accurately as I've got a bad back and can't spend a whole lot of time at the range I need to get asa much out of it as I can. What are some good drills to do with a .22 that can help me get ready for the woods with my 30-06, my range only has bench and standing shooting positions available?

You might try Gunparts Inc. for a mag.
Use the same positions you would use in the field. Offhand, propped on a post or tree trunk, kneeling. Quality practice is what is important, not quantity. Make every shot count. Remember to squeeze the trigger. Don't jerk.
I have a 30-06 that shoots to same point of aim with M-2 ball ammo as Rem. 150 cor-locs. So I use the M-2 for practice. It is better to shoot what you hunt with so as to be comfortable with your hunting rifle. Kinda like an old friend.
