You will hear many replys when you ask "what do I buy?". Some will tell you you need the most expensive stuff to start, the words "pay now or pay later" will come up. While I value everyone's opinion, I am sure the more expensive stuff might be better, but I am thrifty and the equipment I am recommending is the stuff I use, and it still fits my needs.
Hand gun shooters shoot much more ammo per range visit so I am recommending a turret press. This will allow you to have all 4 dies already mounted, and every time you pull the lever the bullet advances to the next stage of the reloading process. (not to be confused with a progressive press where each time you pull the handle one round is finished). It really speeds up the process of reloading several 100 rounds per week. Plus you can use it for single stage reloading if you need to. When you add another caliber to your collection, all you do is buy another 4 hole turret press top ($9.00) and mount your new dies on it. then all you do is switch the turret top to change calibers
Here is what I started with (and still use). I picked the site for the links because I know them, and know where to find stuff on there website, but you can buy anywhere you want.
Book (A MUST) 14.00
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=484416Reloading data for Hodgdon's powder (IMR, Hodgdons, Winchester, Triple 7, etc) is avalable at Hodgdons site, plus if you look around, you can find free books with load data on there sight
http://www.hodgdon.com/press kit, $105.00
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=622290Auto Primer Feeder (well worth the money, keeps your hands off the primer) 20 bucks
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=548630Adapter to raise powder thrower (should be included with the press!) 7 bucks
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=114080Carbide Reloading Dies (includes the factory crimp die) $33.00
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=309802I also would recommend an RCBS hammer style bullet puller. Somewhere along the line you will want to double check something you loaded and the hammer pullers are the hot setup (IMHO).
If you outgrow this stuff, you can always buy a new press and keep this one, or sell it for darn near what you paid for it.
Reloading is not hard. Just be careful, double check everything you do, visual check the powder level in each case looking for double charges and follow powder guidelines from books (most people will check 2 books for sanity checks). I started using Trail Boss because it is so fluffy and most cases will overflow with a double charge.
Most of all, pay attention and don't drink while reloading (can cause mistakes).
Personal I make sure all distractions are removed while reloading (TV, radio, Etc). If someone come into the room to talk to me while I am reloading I stop, just to make sure I don't make a mistake.
