I have figured out how to do it.  Tried it today with just a  209 primer primer came out easy and went off no problem. Stay tuned I think I may have something here. :)

Hey guys,

Got the 5/8 plug from Ben and tried it out this weekend. 4 shots all delayed/hangfire. :(

What gives, Busta? I noticed the considerable slop in the 209 pocket, could that be the problem? Ben even put a 1/8 set screw inside the channel of the plug, which I removed for the last shot, and it still had a delay. I was using 100gr bh209, win 209 pr, and hornady 44cal xtp w/green sabots.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Buckhammer

In one word, "SEAL". Ben made the primer headspace off the rim. Not all primers have the same rim thickness, or length, or diameter, or much of anything that is the same. If you don't seal the primer, you won't get good results. I shimmed my primer holder .008" to help seal ignition, but I still got blowback. He said he had to make your 5/8" plug different, which I knew he would have to after looking at mine.

Can you post some pictures? I would like to see what he came up with.

Put a primer in the primer holder and measure the length from end to end, if you have a set of calipers. You shoud get 1.370", give or take a thousandth. Anything less than that you can shim the difference, but the I.D. of the primer holder is way too big also. I will modify mine so the primer headspaces off the front and sides, just need to figure out what I want to use to do it.

Sealing the primer is everthing!

Thanks Busta,

I will make some shims tomorrow and see what happens.

If can get my wife to figure out where she put the digital, I will try to post some picks of the plug.
