Bought a syn stock set for SB2 and plan on buying 30-30 barrel with the open sights for receiver.  Can you comfortably see the iron sights on this rifle without the scope using the monte carlo stock?  I'm curious.

dpe, missed your question, yes it is the standard NEF base. I am going to change it to the #82 Weaver as soon as I can get one. It allows the scope to be forward/even with the breach end.  See attached photo of Cheri's 30-30.   Doug

I want one of those badly, if for nothing more then to beat you guys with if it doesn't compare favorably with a Zeiss!   ;D  However, I can't get past paying half as much for shipping as I do for the scope!  $20 scope, $10 shipping   ::)  I looked around at all the usual suspects but can't find a local outlet for them.  I guess I could see if there is anything else I want to order with the scope, or maybe 2 scopes... I dunno...   :-\

So, where are you ordering these scopes from?  If they will stand up to these rifles they may be just what I need.

CDNN Sports, Inc., Shipping is pretty reasonable, can't find the bill, but I think it was about $110.00 for the 5 scopes and shippiing.  'Course, CRS has hit me pretty hard lately too. :-[  DP.

Thanks for the contact info fellows.  Wonder if that scope will handle the recoil of a 4 1/2 pound 45-70?  Guess a good way to find out is give it a try.

Slick looking rifles, I really like that paint job!

It's a fixed power shotgun scope, should hang together with the best of them.  Heard alot of badmouthing the Simmons scopes, but I have never had any trouble with one and for the price they all seem to be quite clear and hold settings well.  The newer ones are even better than the older ones and for $90.00, the ProHunter 3x9x40 is a buy!  Another plus is the eye-bell is not so fat, can be mounted in lower rings and not interfear,  ??? (mess with) with the hammer.  Just my opinion, but of course I'm right. ;D  DP.

Doug, the more I look at the gray paint job, the more I like it.  Might have to try to try that with some black or red spider web paint.  Course I'm sure stimpy thinks thats just a good primer coat for one of his "drab" paint jobs. ;D ;D  Just pullin' your leg stimpy, ya got some real purdy stocks from what I've seen in the pictures.  DP.

Doug, I haven't had anything but good luck with Simmons scopes, despite what people say.  With my old eyes, I can't see any better out of a $300 number, and I've never had any recoil problems with them.  I built 4 of my Handis out of parts, and all are excellent.  If I didn't already have 2 Marlin 336s in .30-30, I'd build one too.

I'm finding I really like some lead shot in the larger caliber synthetic stocks.  My '06 Handi is now softer shooting than my 336s, and I'm going to change the .45-70 over to synthetic and give her about 2 lbs. plus of lead up her butt.  I have 36 oz. in the '06 and it feels about like the Garand I used to tote at government expense.
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

Yep , looks like a base coat to me  ;D Honestly I like it , anything that will replace the gunk that H&R puts on a stock ( Pallet Wood ) is an improvement .

After stripping down some of their stocks I do understand why they do it , some have GREAT wood and we would start to expect that all the time .  ;)

stimpy

On a side note I picked up a Barska Huntsman 3x9x40 scope last night at my local MC Sports on sale for $19.99 and have it mounted on my 30/30 barrel . I plan to try and shoot it later today and see how it holds up . We shall see .  ???

My high opinion with the posters here regarding the scope on this rifle just made me call the link and ordered 3 of them.  I can't help but agree with the previous post as it cost me relatively little in shipping per scope and I can buy more rifles so I don't have extra scopes on hand.  Beside the Ultra I already have would be better served with this scope than the one on it. I like the idea of it moved forward enough for the hammer to be drawn with the thumb without the objective lens in the way.  I may put one on my B78 Browning single shot for the same reason.  Maybe the other on my No 1 Ruger.  Wow, I do have places to use these scopes.  Oops, I have to buy another for the new Handi in 30-30.  Oh darn.
