4007SSC - working out just fine.
« on: July 11, 2008, 01:00:59 PM »
Did some test firing today with IMR4007SSC under 168grn Tipped TSXBT's in 30-06.

Best group of the day was .75" over 53.9 grains.

I think the most consistant was 54.2 grains, which kept under 1.5" for every firing, which is plenty good enough, especially considering we were shooting off rocks laying on the ground.

The chrono puts this load at just about 2775fps.

Also tested the 300grn LFNGC in .454 over 25.5grns of 4227 - they were anemic at best.  Getting a top velocity of about 1140, light recoil, and no thunder.  Definitely time to step that one up a couple notches.

:) corbanzo, thanks for your report on 4007, I've been waiting for some detailed feedback on it since it came out. I like IMR 4350 just fine except for the way it meters, which is not bad until you've compaired it to the other SSC's or VARGET. I assume the SSC feature allows it to meter well & I'm hoping it is also insensitive temperature fluctuations. Thanks for the info & please keep us updated as you continue to gain experience with this "new" powder. ;D Jim

Yes, it does meter well, or should I say better, sometimes a chunk or two will get caught in the stroke, and you have to push through it, but it is definitely better than 4350.

I was also quite impressed with the velocities I was getting, there were more consistant than I was getting with my other loads.  This is definitely my new riifle powder of choice.
