which one for the car?

Without predudice because of what you have allready purchaced what would you recomend. Im a dumb ass so ease of operation is about my biggest consern not fancy things i wouldnt use anyway. I would like one that has voice directions though.

Garmin. They have enough models to suit your needs.
I have used a Tomtom but found I liked the Garmins that I had used much better.
This is all from experience using them while riding with friends. I do not own one but plan to shortly

There are so many flavors of automotive gps units available to the consumer deciding on which one to invest your money in can be tough.  While not in order I do not think that you can go wrong with a TOM TOM, Magellan, or Garmin models, which have the high sensitivity receiver.  I’ll take that back, if you do your homework and compare the features, and then decided on a model you will be happier.

Do not let the posted rating on sites such as WalMart.com influence you.  The ratings at many sites are part of the marketing package and they do not publish negative ratings.  I have not looked at the TOM TOM manuals, but I was impressed with the Magellan Manual, and the Garmin Manuals have improved over the years, but may not be a match for the Magellan 4040 manual.

You see a lot of automotive gps units on sale.  I believe it is wise to see if the units are on sale have been discontinued or about to be.  I went to this page and compared the feature on the latest models with the c550 on sale and save considerable money. 

A couple Christmas’s back I was looking to buy a lower model number Garmin Street Pilot for my grandson and then decided against it.  The primary reason was that model did not have the high sensitivity receiver.  I would not buy any model from any of the manufactures that does not have a high sensitivity receiver.

Magellen 3200. I know nothing hardly about computers or GPS's and this one I figured out to use easily. I have used the Garmin where I work and it is in my dump truck and I am always getting confused with it or it tells me the wrong directions. The next best is Tom Tom as I have heard.

I have an older model magellen that I am pretty happy with, and it seems with electronics things just get better. I think the ticket is to take time to play with it. Buzzing down the road with the wife driving and nothing to do, take it down and push the buttons. One objection to my Maggie,we call it that for the female voice that can be a little demanding at times, is the mounting system. This is a suction cup for the window. Hard to place sometimes it falls off. I finally had a bright idea and mounted a piece of angle iron to the magellen, and attached a strong magnet  permanently to the dash. with gas at $4+ a gallon I think we are about to break even on the purchase price.
