This 30-06 I just bought is my first Browning ... are the Belgian made rifles considered more desirable ?

Yes - To collectors, and in pristine condition.

I preferred my "made in Belgium/assembled in Portugal" .30-06 BAR to the earlier Belgium, mostly because I didn't care for the much lighter-colored, blond-ish, English Walnut on the Belgium gun, compared to the dark, well-figured black walnut on the later rifle.

YMMV, of course.

The accuracy, with either, was comparable.
