WHICH LIGHT RUGER (257)
« on: September 22, 2003, 01:41:01 PM »
Today I looked at the lightweight and compact youth Ruger.  I'm not a youth, but want a little lite rifle.  How much poop would I be losing with the 16 1/2 inch barrel? How long would it take me to get tired of the little short stock?  In all probability I'll get the 22 inch barrel, but that smaller Ruger is sure a cute looking little dude.

If you reload you can reduce the velocity loss by using a faster powder.  If you can find data for a 15" barreled contender you may get an idea of what kind of velocity you can expect. Winchester has a compact M70 short action with a 20" barrel and is blued/walnut and has a 13" length of pull. BTW, both the Ruger and Win. M70 compact are CRF ( no jibe in tended). As I said in another post I have both brands and am very happy with both. Dave
