I bet you will find your answer on one of these 2 cowboy action forums.  Shooting lighter loads is popular with these 2 groups.

I have never fired them in my rifle, but I'm also curious about this.  For what it's worth I have loaded all kinds of different bullets in my rifle and never had any feeding problems.  320gr hard cast to 240 JHP, never with any problems.

How far out can you all accurately hit deer sized targets with yours?  If I can brace myself and I'm using my good ammo I can hit targets at 150 yards.  I shoot steel plates and at that distance the 44 mag still has quite a whallop left in it.

mostly i use 240 grain winchester soft points which is really accurate and the farthest ive shot is bout 75 yards and i was on target.

I mainly just cut coils off all of my springs. Ejector spring, Hammer spring, and magazine spring. I didnt have no ruff edges to file down. That really made it smooth!!!

Mine seems to be getting smoother the more I shoot it.  I sure like that gun.  It's so small & handy, but packs a huge punch.

I'm looking to get a PUMA '92 in 44MAG in the near future.  I was wondering what barrel length is optimal for the 44MAG.  I was thinking of getting the 20" model but the 16" sounds really nice for tote'n around in the brush.  What do you guys think?

I've held the different lengths and the 24" barrel felt a little long for hunting, the 16" barrel just felt like too much of a toy, and the 20" felt just right.  That's just me though.  I wouldn't mind owning one of each if I could.

To answer your original question, the .44 Mag Puma I had would cycle .44 Specials slick as could be.  I honestly don't know if I ever ran .44 Mag brass through it when I owned it.

I bought it used from a friend of mine who regretted selling it to me about one week later.  I held on to it for about a year, then sold it back to him for the same price I bought it for (what are friends for).  To my knowledge, he's still got it, and I still regret selling it back to him.
