Help me out: Marlin 1894SS or Marlin 1894 Cowboy
« on: July 28, 2008, 11:13:01 PM »
I'm planning on getting a .44 rem. mag. levergun for deer hunting and plinking mostly. The 1894 Marlin seems like a good choice. However, I'm having a hard time deciding whether I should get the Cowboy version or the Stainless Steel one.

Does anyone have any experiences with these to rifles? What are your preferences, pro's and con's?

E.g., is the Cowboy more accurate by not having barrel bands?

I have both and I don't see any difference in accuracy between the two. Your decision of which one to hunt with is pretty much a personal prefrence. Without looking it up, I do believe the cowboy model is a little heavier because of the octagone barrel.
