And who said thats there's no money in oil , this whole thing was started by one of the members of the royal family of that country with all the $$s that they have made from the sale of oil .

Up to this point all they had was sand & oil , now their working on a 2nd income .  ;D

What is the use of having all that money if you are not going to use it, and where else would they spend it. noticed they put in a rather large amusement park. wonder if they put in a wally world?

Obviously you guys missed the "winter wonder land" they created in the middle of the desert with ski slopes, snow and all. Totally encapsulated and temperature controlled. Aaahhhh, for the good life.

I heard a piece on NPR on this topic a couple of months ago...
It seems they have built up to the point, that like most boom towns/citys, the large majority of service level workers, and construction laborers, cannot afford to live there! I have seen some very tempting offers for employment in Dubai... :o

That's insane....and we fund it each and every day??!!

As far as moving there to work, sounds pretty good but I don't think I'd look good in the desert robe and turban.  And aren't the beach areas kind of wasted in an Arab country??

When global warming finishes melting the polar icecaps, Dubai will look like Venice.

Just another case of Dems re distribution of wealth.  The people have access but user fees prevent ownership.  The princes of these monarchies justifiy the transfer of wealth to the people, but with what benefit?  Appears like modern socialism, with those in control of government still control the money back to themselves, all the while telling the world how much better off the common person is.  I think they will have national health care next, if they don't commit genocide first.
