8/8/08 Went squirrel hunting this morning-Good day
« on: August 08, 2008, 04:45:56 PM »
It got down to 65 this morning here in Illinois and not much wind. Took my CZ452 American out to the farm.

It took about 15 minutes to spot a couple so I got in closer. My squirrel distress call brought one right down the tree and I missed. Got a little to anxious. Waited 20 minutes and saw one but no shot.

I moved about 100 yards and sat for 15 minutes. The distress call brought one out on a limb and I took it through the head. Moved 45 yards and had one sitting on a limb. Another head shot. Headed back and saw two more and got them with head shots.

Not many mosquitos so it was nice. It still needs to get colder to feel like real hunting but who can wait?

Went up on the hill and set out clay targets at 135 and 195 yards. Used my Leica 1200 and ballistic software. Nailed them all but it took a few shots. Yeh, it was a good morning.

Seems like you had a good time.  I like it a bit cool as well, but I agree ... what the hay!

Squirrel opens on Sept. 6th here.

We've had some unseasonably cool, but nice weather the past week that has me itching to get after the little bushy tails.

Been waking up to low 50's.  Perfect squirrel weather.   ;)
