I'd like to save some time and components and tap into the expertise on this site.  Should I be looking at 120 or 140 for large whitetails? Does that short barrel favor hot loads or mild and if anyone is willing to give some starting recommendations, I'd appreciate it.  My 1st ever session with the 7-08 pistol and Fed Fusion factory loads had me busting clay at 100 yds and ringing the 12" plate at 200 yds every shot so I'm definitely a convert and want my own frame :D.  Thanks folks.

Well I have the 15" Encore barrel and I use 140 grain bullets with IMR-4064 a good medium burning powder.

I mostly don't load anything other than 140 grains, but the 120 grain look promising for Antelope.

Take a look at Hodgdon DOT COM reloading data for 7mm-08 Remington pistol and you will find a loads for the 15" barrel.

I also use once fired 308 Winchester brass civilian or military, because its much cheaper.

Please remember to start at the reloading manual published starting loads and work your way up to find you best accuracy.

I stay about 3 grains off reloading manual published max loads for the thicker military brass.

I would also be intersted to hear what loads have worked best for others. Also does anyone have any experience with them in shorter than 15" format? loads?

Mine was a 14" barrel  H-4895 (40.0 grains) with the 140 NBT, when my buddy bought it from me he used 42.0 H-4895 with the 120 grain NBT.
This was in an XP-100.
Grouped under .25 inch @ 100 yards.

My 15" shoots the best with sierra 140 grn prohunter and 41.0  IMR 4064. The bullet is just off the lands. My hunting partners also shoots the best with this combo. His also does pretty good with varget but I don't remember the charge wt. I chronied about 2500 fps with my load.

I will second Tony G's advice, except I use Hornady 139 gr SST bullets  and the 140 gr Accubonds. Very accurate. If you don't load try good ole  Remington factory 140 gr core-loks my 15" Encore loves em.

I'm with XP-Hunter on powder and charge. I use 139 Hornadys & CCI BR-2's. RE 15 has also worked well for me.
