anyone think that Limbsavers are TOO soft?
« on: October 17, 2008, 03:32:53 PM »
So I was firing a Mosin 91/30 with steel butt.  It is comprable to 308 for muzzle energy if I remember right.

I then fired my SKS with slip-on Limbsaver, went back to the Mosin, and then my 357 Handi with Limbsaver (left over from its original barrel).

My impression was that a) the 91/30 really isn't that bad as long as you seat it in your shoulder and, more to the point, that b) there was more muzzle flip with the Limbsaver.

Obviously, the Limbsavers work very well.  LOVE them on everything from 12 gauge to SKS.

Has anyone else noticed that they have more muzzle rise, different POI, or more perceived recoil with the softer, Limbsaver style pads?

I have severial on everything from a plastic stock WIN model 1300 to a slip on on my 450 MARLIN.
Havn't noticed any difference in POI but what a difference in the felt recoil, especialy on the 1300 with 3" #4 buck!!!
Sure wish they made pre-fit ones for the HANDIs.

I've never done any with and without test comparisons, I've always put the pad on before I ever shot the firearm. I have a bunch of em on non-H&R firearms too, from my 835 to all 3 of my inline muzzleloaders. ;)

LT, they do make them for the synthetic stock, the #10018, and the SB2-988 #10601 and one other fit a lot of Handi/Ultras, I have a few prefits on Ultra stocks, a few others with grind-to-fits also.

I love them, ditto on the wish that I could get 'made to fits' for everything.  I make do with a slip on 'shooter's friend' for the others.  As far as I am concerned there is no such thing as a too soft recoil pad. ;)

I was looking at one at BassPro today and it said something like "New Less Muzzle Rise"

I wish they were a little more durable.  I actually think they are too soft.

They sure tame my .30-06 to .243 levels.

I'd like to try the new SuperCell Remington pad, but I don't think they make it for the 700CDL yet.

Limbsaver's Speed Mount pads are said to reduce muzzle rise, they also have a coating for applying to the pad that makes it less sticky, but I've been using Kick Eez Slick Eez on mine for a couple years, it's about time Limbsaver thought if it!! ::)

Oh, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't shoot my Mossberg pump without one.  There really is some truth in advertising about 40% less felt recoil.  I love the things, slip on, grind to fit, or prefit.

I was just surprised how much more muzzle flip that I had with the two light recoil rifles.

A more embarassing thing that I noticed the other day was that I have started flinching.  I was firing an Enfield and switched to the 22 Savage while waiting for it to cool off.  The first couple of shots surprised me as I jerked/flinched with the trigger.

I really like the limbsavers, like on the 45-70 and 444 marlin.  I tend to hang on to the forearm real tight when shooting, so haven't noticed the muzzle rise.  It's a product that does what it says in the advertisment, kinda nice in this day of BS getting tossed around so freely.  DP
