Took my new 30-30 barrel out today to get the new scope sighted in. Bore sighted it @ 25 yds and wanted to see how well it would do with live rounds @ 50 yds., so I took a large pizza box with a 2" black mark in the center and set out with 5 new 30-30 handloads.
First shot, couldn't see any impact on the white box anywhere. Second shot, left of the mark. So where did the first one go? I walked down to the target and then I saw that the first shot had hit in the black! Back to my makeshift shooting bench ( plastic milk case seat and two 1" dowels shooting sticks) and shot the final 3 rounds. I probably could have done better but I was still excited from the first two, plus 50 yds. uphill gets a bit-o-blood pumping in this old guy (living on a ridge all the shots are either uphill or downhill, the only flat spot of land is where the house is sitting).
Looks like this will be a fun barrel to work up some loads with!
BTW the scope is a 4x32 Simmons Blazer. I had my eye on a Leupold FX but momma had other ideas of where to spend the stimulus money...
