410. Compact
« on: August 10, 2008, 03:45:49 PM »
I usually carry a 410. single shot with me on my trapline for rabbits or grouse, i just want to know if 45. colt bullets will work in it? I know the 410. survivor will accomidate them but it doesnt say anything about the compact. thanks

The 45-.410 survivor is a thick walled , fully rifled barrel made to fire the 45 colt  rnd. When shooting .410 shot shells a special screw in choke tube is supplied with the barrel to stop the shot column from spinning as it leaves the muzzle. A regular 410 barrel was never meant to fire 45 Cal bullets. A.410 is .41 cal. a 45 colt is .452 . Fireing a 45 thru the .410 barrel would be disasterous in my opinion and should never be attempted.

AMEN

There are alternatives though. One that works very well is a 3 ball buckshot round can't recall who makes them right now... but I have shot them out of my Tamer and the 26" full choke bbls. Out to about35 yrds they pattern about8-10" high 2 large pellets within 2" of each other and always one flier 12-18" low right. Closer range just reduces the same pattern. Any thing farther I think will bounce off. But if yer just looking to hit something hard at 20 yards those 2 pellets will do it. Kurt

You might want to change the buttstock and keep that survivor forearm the sling mount on the end of the forearm combined with a short barrel makes carrying it slung over shoulder  easy going through brush does not hang up as much as most guns

I like the survivor fore end paired with a standard synthetic stock.
PROUD REDNECK CONSERVATIVE

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

There's a link to the FAQs and Help posted as a sticky here, it's the topic right above this one at this time.
