Hello Men. Any of you know if you can shoot a slug like the remington slugger or brenneke slugs out of a tracker II ? This gun seems to have the stuff I'm lookin for in a slug gun except a smooth bore. Any info's a help. Thanks! scout4<><

If your patient and persistent you can find a used tracker smoothbore on gunbroker or gunsamerica. I bought one a few months back. Shooting the foster style slugs will give you OK accuracy for a few rounds until the barrel starts to lead up.
PROUD REDNECK CONSERVATIVE

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

While sighting in my Tracker II 20g, Winchester rifled slug gave me a dead-on bulls eye at 50 yards, from the bench, no sand bags or rest.

I am making some recoil reductions mods and when I get back to the range I will finish the sighting in process using $8.75/15 rounds from Walmart.

The leading is the only issue, but it should not build up very fast.

So pay a huge amount for sabots, or a lot less for rifled slugs, that cost you some elbow grease to clean the bore every 20 shots or so.

I took weeks to research the web regarding rifled slugs in rifled barrels. They do no harm to the barrel, just the leading issue.

That's how much differant guns will shoot .I tried the winchester fosters in one of my TrackerII's and they were all over the place at 35 to 50 yrds with terrible leading. All I could get to shoot good out of my Mossberg pump was Rem Sluggers go figure. Kurt

Kurt, they are next on my list as they are lighter, a little slower (therefore less recoil), and cost the same as the Winchesters at Walmart. I also have a box of 5 Federals I will try, but I think they are a little hotter than the Winchester.

I think what we are both trying to communicate is that sabots are not the only way to go, unless you are into 100 yards + or, none of the rifled slugs shoot well under 100 yards.

Brian I have one of the new 20ga Ultra Lite Slug Hunters with the Ultragon rifling that I really need to get out and shoot .I have a few full bore hand loads made up to try, both plastic and brass cases hopefully low recoil should be about 1200fps .I just have not had the time to work with yet. I also have a bunch of the cheap winchesters that I got a while back from a local Kmart that was stopping ammo and gun sales I got 36 boxes for $1.10 a box so it would be nice to get them to shoot out of something .I just bought a used 20 smooth bore that is not here yet but my TrackerII hated them. Kurt:

It is funny how what should be identical guns/rifles shoot so different with the same ammo. I was only able to add 2oz extra weight to my forend, so now my tracker is factory +22oz.

I will get to the range next week, mid week and run my full series of sighting in and load comparison. I will post pics afterwards.

The slugs kick so much in the Tracker because the the gun is very light and the slugs are very heavy and very fast - Winchester 3/4oz = 328gr at 1600fps, Remington 5/8oz = 273gr at 1560fps.

The field shot cartridges I used to get the lead for the stock have 1oz of shot but only travel at 1200fps.

So a comparison would be - Winchester slug is 100% recoil; Remington slug recoil = 82%; Federal field shot loads recoil = 116%.

I hope you can find a budget way to feed both the smooth bore and rifled Tracker versions.
