What smokeless powder would you guys recommend to most closely match the performace of performance of black powder? Ive heard loading with pyrodex is an option but I was wondering if a smokeless is out there that gives similar volume and velocity?

TrailBoss if you're shooting cast bullets, but it's not for jacketed bullets.

Wouldn't you want cast if you were trying to duplicate old BP loads? I thought jacketed loads wouldn't obdurate in the bore to take the rifling at BP pressures.

Duplicating BP loads doesn't necessarily limit bullets to cast, it could mean BP velocities too. This previous discussion comes to mind when Trailboss was mentioned.

GMDR has a ton of low velocity smokeless cast bullet data.
