.35 Whelen
« on: August 16, 2008, 05:18:42 PM »
I live in Mississippi and the Encore in any caliber .35 or above is now legal for use as a "primitive weapon" . I was talking to one of the guys about a .35 Whelen handi rifle he had on the shelf and mentioned that I was thinking of ordering a .35 Whelen barrel for my Encore. He said that they had just gotten a shipment in but they were stainless (which is what I need). I ask to see one, they are 26" standard contour, fluted $319.00. Long story ,short....... HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME !! I am sending it for a trigger job this week then I'm gonna mount the scope and put the barrel on. I have found some ammo loaded with 225 gr. Nosler Accubonds that look like they might be the ticket. Does anyone else shoot this caliber?

35 Whelen is a great cartridge.  I have used it on deer, pronghorns, mountain lion and elk.

Gotta get up into the mountains to conduct a worship service for hikers and campers in a couple hours so I can't go on and on right now.

Check out this site for lots of info.  (I find the handloads too hot for my taste.)
