the myronman was almost a hood ornament today because of a car passing another car in a very bad place.  i meet them head on just over the crest of a hill and had two options: become a hood ornament or take the ditch at 60mph.  i took the ditch and when on the ride of my life.  my bike is  twisted, but thankfully i walked away with a few scratches and scrapes.    i am pretty shaken up, but alright.
once again,  a car violated the law and i am still here for one reason only....by GOD's grace.   be safe out there...

p.s.   sorry ironglow to use your title in my title, but i still have a sense of humor......

Glad you're okay. I never had to take a ditch but If I had a dollar for every time I surprised some idiot by pounding on his window I'd be rich.

Glad you are OK, that's the most important.  Keep wanting to get a bike myself.  But then I think about all the close calls I had, and talk myself out of it.

That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

People in cars and trucks tend to ignore folks on motorcycles it's as if they don't even see them. Then too some see and don't like so try to run them off the road. Once in my dirt bike riding days I had one completely run me off the road very intentionally. I had several other close calls riding to the mountains via highways. The one when I got ran off the road intentionally was while riding the dirt roads in the mountains.

I try to be respectful of folks on bikes as I did used to ride and I do look for them not just for cars and trucks before pulling onto roads.

Once I watched a guy on a bike t-bone a car when the driver of the car was watching me getting ready to turn onto the highway from a side road they were turning onto. They never saw the guy on the bike who was likely doing 85 or 90 at impact. Yeah he was speeding but he did have the right of way but that doesn't mean it hurt any less when he impacted the highway helmet first about 50' to 60' from where he left the motorcycle. I never did hear whether he lived or died.

Honestly---I am VERY glad too hear of your safe return Myron.
Riding a motorcycle is not a safe thing IMO.
Not withstanding the jerks---and I am not as convienced that there are that many out there--most folks look for cars/trucks and a motorcycle is not in that same size range. I have been guilty.
Motorcycles are not going too cope very well with a car, on impact.
I would own another if I lived in the country. I will never ride another one in the city----and----you have too ride in the city to get too the country.
Blessings Myron

I am also happy you survived what could have been another tragic statistic. Did the person pull over? If not do you know what type car it was? Did you file a police report? Dale

the worst part of the whole deal is the bastards that ran me off never stopped, they left me for dead.   entirely their fault, then left someone else to pay for their irresponsibilty.  very nice.  luckily God decided it was not my time.

So did you file a police report? I would think you would need to for your insurance. Dale

Thank Heaven you're okay!   :o  What is a near miss or a fender bender to a cager can be a death sentence for a rider!   :(

We had my Club's annual party tonight and the Alabama State President was in a wreck on the way to Atlanta.  Some cager apparently missed his exit on the expressway and stopped!  My Brother is gonna be okay but his wife, who was riding with him, is in pretty bad shape.  Details are still sketchy.

Bikes can be replaced Myron, you can't!  I'll say an extra prayer of thanksgiving tonight.

I wish there were easy answers. There are not--and I disagree that ALL four wheelers are cagers.
Hit and runs are not always against bikers.
Bikers are not a target IMO.
I like bikers and like the bikes.
In this world, where bikers are definitely out numbered, I cannot force myownself too ride again. I wish there were a separation for those of us who would like too ride---there is not.
I can appreciate the feelings against four wheelers--and most is justified.
Most of the anger is at someone who makes a mistake--not an attempt.
I made a mistake a year ago when I ran a red light and totaled out my Expedition and another F-250.
No one was injured---but that is not the point---I could have taken a life---on purpose?---No! I wsas in another place and never saw the light.
That is hardly an excuse.
This is a dangerous world we live in and one slip--one innocent moment of the mind off driving and a life or lives are at stake.
We all do it---We ALL, bikers as well as four wheelers, are guilty. It would be an amazing thing if we could see all our driving errors/mistakes that we got away with--pretty scary thought.
Run away ? Well we know that people today are not willing too accept any responsibility for anything.
Glad/happy/thankful/ many more words that you are OK.
Blessings

i have been, and always will be a polite driver whether in car or on a bike.   until someone does something that puts me in danger, then i  become an educator.   unfortunately,  the odds of me being able to educate the one who sidelined me are going to be slim to none.
many times when i have had close calls i have followed safely behind the offender and talked to them about their transgression.  that goes a long way toward how they act in the future or at least i hope.  what i wouldnt give for a few minutes to talk with yesterdays offender.
hopefully your brother and his wife will be alright, although i am all to aware of the consquenses the riders have to pay because of these needless incidents.

thanks all for letting me vent.

It is truly as you say, most are accidental...BUT... anyone who has ridden for any length of time surely has a few stories of intentional misconduct.

I have been riding most of my adult life and have had many close calls (thankfully only close calls), most of which were accidental, some of them were not though.

I was behind a drunk driver, she fell asleep at a stoplight and when the light turned green, she didn't move so I tapped the horn. She peeled out and when I tried to go around her she asked if I "wanted to die on that thing" and proceeded to try and run into me. Luckily I was on a pretty fast bike and took off as she was trying to ram me with her station wagon. I pulled over in a gas station a few blocks up the road and waited for her to drive by. I guess I should have called the cops but I was just glad I and my wife got out of there in one piece.
