4064 IMR vs. Accurate
« on: September 16, 2008, 02:36:49 PM »
I read that many people were having good luck reloading their .243Win cartridges with 4064.  So today when I went to get some rounds for deer hunting I picked up a pound of 4064.  However, I didn't realize that IMR and Accurate both make a 4064.

I am guessing that the two are not interchangable, even though Accurate claims theirs is "similar" to IMR's...  Is that correct?

I see that Accurate has load data for the .243 and their 4046, but they don't list 65gr. Hornady.  I guess I'll have to do a little interpolating between the 60 and 70gr. bullets...

??? HMMMM, My Accurate reloading manual does even list 4064. They must have come out with it after 1994.

My .243 likes IMR 4064 for 70 grain pellets and IMR 4350 for 100 grain Nosler Partitions (deer load). The powder you purchased may indeed be similar. Start with a low powder charge and build up slowly and see if your rifle likes the powder. Even if you get a proven recipe from someone else you should start lower and build up. I always increase in .5 grain increments. When I find the best satisfactory groups I fine tune the powder load and sometimes play with the OAL.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.
