Cast Bullet mold for .38-55 H & R Target
« on: July 22, 2008, 12:41:08 PM »
Looking for suggestions for a mold to cast an accurate bullet in 0.380" diam for my H & R .38-55 Target model. 0.378" and 0.379"  bullets do not work so well in my rifle.

Here's a great thread in the H&R Centerfire forum on bullets and molds for the 38-55 Target, John Boy's posts in particular, he shoots 1000yds with his Target.  ;)

I took a Lee mold that cast at .379 and lapped it to .381 It shoots great now.
Lapping = There are several differant ways to do it.
I cast a bullit and drilled a hole in it. Put an ez out in it. Coated bullit with lapping compound put drill on ez out. Hold handles together with bullit in the mold and drill. Do this a while- cast and measure. go some more cast and measure. Keep doing this till you get to the size you want.
Hope this helps
