Trigger Job for A Mossberg 640KD 22 Mag Rifle???
« on: May 04, 2008, 11:29:04 AM »
I have an old Mossberg Model 640KD 22 Mag bolt action rifle, serial number 1238664.  I bought it new way back, maybe in the late 1960's or 1970's.  The trigger pull on this gun is lengthy and heavy.  Can the trigger pull be lightened, improved, smoothed out?  Is this something I can do myself?  I have never had a trigger apart before but it doesn't seem like there would be a lot to it.

Thanks for any info.

Dave

yes I've done several of them take the gun out of the stock turn upside down if in the fired position you will see a wheel with a notch in it this is the sear it engages the u shaped metal trigger link  you can file or hone the notch down a bit  and then file or hone the corners at an angle from the edges toward the middle be sure to leave about half of the original  notch. there is a pic of it on the rimfirecentral forum under mossberg a guy asking questions on a model 720 new haven by mossberg.( same gun) go slow and check often good luck.

Thanks for the trigger information.

Any idea what this gun in average condition would be worth/sell for?

Thanks, Dave
