A new card to get in the us or canada ?
« on: September 17, 2008, 02:48:01 PM »
I heard a blurb on the news That a new document was going to be needed to get into and out of canada back to the USA beginning in January ? I thought all you needed was a passport. I got a bear hunt booked next Spring and I want to make sure I'm covered. Who can I call ?

There are a few options. As I understand it there will be a card that can be used in Canada and some Carribean areas when traveling surface transportation. If traveling by air a passport book is required. In addition some states will offer a License that is "enhanced" that can act as a passport card. When I came back into States they gave me a flyer explaining it, so I'm sure you'll be able to find details on line at the Homeland security website.  The Post Office would be the best bet for local contact, the cards are less expensive if you don't plan to fly out of the country ever.

Passport is as always the best option the others offer lower levels of access to foreign travel at a lower cost.
