what the heck do they eat?

everytime I see a show they are hunting these beasts, its 40 or 50 below, driving snow, twenty feet of ice to reach the surface of the earth.

they are some tough animals.

Lichen and similar, there is plant life in those places with a very short growing period. Then it is digging and pawing thru the snow very similar to any northern type animal.
