Puzzled About Sighting In Optima Elite
« on: September 17, 2008, 03:34:03 PM »
Yesterday I was sighting in my OE and using 120 grains of 777 and a 350 grain Hornady FPB bullet. I started at 25 yards and finally had the shots touching and going in the same hole. Pleased I went home and took the barrel off for a thorough cleaning ( I didn't touch the scope). Today I went back to the range to shoot 100 yards, out of 4 shots I didn't even hit the target or stand. Could taking the barrel off cause the scope to get that much out of aligement?

Never go from 25 yards  to 100 yards.

Go back to 25, recheck with 3 shots, move out to 50 yards, 3 shots, 75 yards, 3 shots.

I know that my shots when sighted 2" high @ 50 drift a good 2 or 3" to the right.

You are using a lot of powder so i am not quite sure how that bullet will act at 100 yards.

Just because they were in one hole at 25, dont mean you will get good groups @ 100.
