Recently got a Rem 700 sps tactical, 308 with the 20" heavy barrel with the Hogue stock. Mounted a bushnell 4200 3-9x40 on it. Finally got to the range last week. I was shooting some leftover handloads from my old 308 savage. They were:
150 gr sierra, 44.5 varget, WLR & RP cases,
150 gr Nos BT, 44.5 Varget, WLR, & RP cases.
Both of these loads shot very well out of the savage and I thought this would be a great place to start.
After some scope adjusting, the Nos BT loads did very well. First 3-shot group was about 0.70", and the second group of 3 went 0.56". I was also cleaning between each group of 3, so I was impressed. I believe this gun shots better than I'm able. The sierra loads did OK with groups about 1" or slightly bigger. But in all fairness, I think some of that may have been me. More testing with this load.
BTW, I did adjust the new trigger down to approximatle 3 lbs. Very easy to do.
Overall, the gun balances very well and is not too heavy. The muzzle blast is a little more than normal but thats expected. I will be shooting these loads over my chrony soon to see exactly how their doing. I plan to use this gun a lot this hunting season.
Good hunting,
