Saw a Ruger I Wanted
« on: October 28, 2008, 12:12:21 PM »
I was brousing the orphan rack today, and came across a 95%+ Ruger #1 in .375H&H with a 4 power Leupold for $750.00.  It was slick as a baby's butt to operate.  It seemed like a good deal.

No, I just made a payment on my Interarms Mauser.  I might buy me a CZ in .375 one day.  I like the caliber.

I could probably get it for $700.00 & the scope is worth $200.00 I suppose.

Well just because it's a Leupold doesn't mean it's a $200 scope but about any decent shape #1 with a decent scope will be worth the $750.  The chambering in that particular gun is a kicker but a great combination none the less.  A smart man wuld find a way and make that his.

WOW, $200.00 is quite steep for a used Leupold 4x.

I wouldn't give more than $150 only if its in pristine condition.

I have always loved Ruger #1's and no doubt $750 is excellent and a steal with the scope, but I wouldn't one in 375 H&H Magnum.

Since the 375 H&H Magnum is a dangerous game cartridge, a good control feed bolt action is best.

The Leupold VX-III 1.5-5x 20mm is the perfect ticket for the scope.

$550 or less for the rifle in my mind is a great price. I would have to NEED one in that caliber to pay more ( or just be in a mood)
To me that scope is worth $150 like mentioned before

That scope sells for about $300.00.  You can find them a little cheaper but you have to pay shipping.  Jack O'Connor used a 4X Leupold on his .270.  Good little scope.

I'm gonna buy a .375H&H.  I don't need one, I just want one.  No rifle battery is complete without it.

So sure it's a $300 scope and you find it on a #1 for $750 and you didn't buy it?  ???  Guess you weren't sure the rifle was worth the $450.  ::)
There has been more than a single series of 4x from Leupold.  Which model line is it?

I have no .375 H&H and have no intentions of having one regardless of how much I like the #1's.  Guess I'll always be "incomplete".  ;D

I'm not sure any Ruger is worth $450.00, but it was nice looking and in one of my 3 favorite calibers.

Ok, so you've said the $300 scope is worth $200 and yet the $800-$900 rifle isn't worth the other $450.  ::) This logic still isn't making any sense. ???

You would be hard pressed to get the Ruger #1 Tropical in 375 H&H Magnum price down to $450.00 without the scope.

Did you happen to see what Leupold 4x model scope it was, go grab the serial number and you can see when it was made also.

If its one of the newer used scopes in used absolutely pristine condition would be no more than $150 tops.  To say it goes for $300 new is grossly overpricing.

I was just going by the internet pricing for an M8-4X.

It looked new.

OK, Leupold M8 4x rifle scope, no more than $150 if it looks new.

I have an interarms whitworth and it is a 375 H&H and it did come with a 4x leupold and I did pay $750 for it. I have seen 4x leupold scopes for $ 100 at pawn shops before. if it's a combo you like, it's money well spent. Moose and bears have a good reaction when hit with a 375, I would not want to do without one in my rifle battery.

Used Ruger #1's may occasionally sell for $550 or so - but I haven't seen one in .375 H&H go anywhere near that cheaply, in over ten years.

Yes, the used Leupy 4x is a $150 scope with a lifetime warranty.

I have had both the .375 H&H #1 and the .375 H&H CZ550 Americal Safari - Get the #1 !

The CZ, bareback, will cost you more than the Ruger (about $850)- and they all need a little reworking of their factory workmanship to make them servicable/dependable.
Plus, the forward sling QD is on the forend & must be moved to the barrel, upon pain of a torn forward hand.
I don't know it the latest models have been changed, but the new CZ I ordered three years ago had a safety that worked in the reverse of American safeties.
