500 s&w loads
« on: September 04, 2008, 10:31:00 PM »
I am looking for load data on 300 grain bullets   I want to use LiL-gun  or  5744  or 2015   or N110 powders  looking for velocity range of 1600-1800 fps    here is the  catch   i am loading for my  handi-rifle   and using 300 grain gold dot speer bullets
speer has no data for this bullet in the 500s&w as it is for the 50 AE  round   However Speer technical support states they will hold up at these speeds and will give pass-through performance  and awesome expansion on whitetails, i am thinking of starting @ 40 grains of LIL-gun or 42.0 grainsof 5744 and not sure on the other two powders,  I am favoring 5744 due to its bulk    and use in light loads in large cases IE 45/70 45-100 45-120   loads
I know i could use heavier bullets but these will expand and work @ the speeds i am looking at and these loads are for a buddy to use out to 100-130 yards  and not beat him up to badly ( he is disabled)  thanks for the help

I have some of those bullets, I haven't loaded them yet though. They don't have a cannelure on them, but it shouldn't hurt in a single shot. The powder charge you listed sounds about right for a lighter load. I also use Lil Gun, but with 410 gr. LFNGC @ 1800 fps.
