Woodchuck bait

:D  Today a woodchuck wandered into my garage. He had an unfortunate accident and I was thinking he might make good bait. He's now resting in my freezer. Do woodchucks make good bait and how do you use them?

yes they make excellant preditor bait. about 2 weeks before your season starts, thaw it out, gut it, keep liver, heart, kidneys, lungs. cut off feet, tail and head. you can either leave the hide on or skin it.  you can either cut it up in chunks, bones in or boned out, or grind the thing up in to paste, use the heart , liver , kidneys, lungs too for bait. chunks should be small, no bigger than a teaspoon. put in a glass jar, bury for 10-14 days. it will be slightly tainted then.  mix a cup of soduim benzoate, borax, canning salt, whatever you got for a preservitive per gallon of meat. this will keep it from tainting further, make sure you mix it in well.. will work fine just as is, or add other things to it to spice it up or slightly change the oder. beaver castor, beaver sac oil, muskrat musk, skunk essence, salmon oil, ambrette, tonquin, lavender, mink musk, weasel musk, you get the point.  give it a try.  mark

:D Thanks, I know everything loves to eat muskrat. I didn't save any from last year so I can use these woodchucks to start. One wandered into the garage a couple weeks ago too. He also had a fatal accident. Why would they want to go in my garage?
