Action length???
« on: March 28, 2008, 04:36:15 AM »
So, does Tikka make different action lengths for the T3 or not?  Everything I read says "No" except for some Tikka stuff that says there are 5 different lengths...  I really hope this gun is a shooter because I can never find anything definitive on it.  They aren't that new and they seem to have a pretty strong following and a good reputation but most companies seem to be ignoring it or only making part of their line for it... Guess I'll find out more tomorrow... I'll post a range report.

There is only one action length. They do change the length of the bolt travel for different cartridges by changing the position of the bolt stop. The magazines for the shorter cartridges have spacers in them to correctly position the cartridge but from the outside they are all the same too.

Sako uses different length receivers for the various cartridge sizes. To me, it's not a significant drawback (what's a couple of ounces of weight....the T3 is incredibly light already). I have a T3 and love it, though I am selling it soon to make room for (gasp) a Savage 99 in .250 Savage. The gun cabinet is full......maybe I should instead get a new gun cabinet.....?

everything fits in my safe... actually I have one in the US and a small one here in Germany.  I'm hoping to someday have a vault room instead of a safe.  That would be the way to go!  Thanks for the information.  At least it's a little clearer now.

Yep..only one action length. That's why I opted for a 30-06 over the 308. Their both just as accurate, and both rifles are same length and weight so might as well take advantage of extra powder space.
